Because of the huge cost savings, many people are now turning to software development in abroad countries.  While even large corporations are going this route, this is highly beneficial for small and startup companies.  Often, one of the most expensive aspects of a business operation is the software and programming.  Therefore, hiring a professional in another country, someone who can provide quality but at an unbeatable price, makes sense.

All types of software development in abroad countries are seen to include web design, IT, infrastructure maintenance, and programming.  Although this opportunity has been extremely beneficial for many companies, it has also been the subject of serious controversy in recent years.  After all, local software developers feel they are being passed over for work because of cost, which is true but on the other hand, once the programming is complete, other functions of the operation remain local.

Two of the primary locations where software development in abroad occurs is China and India.  Other countries in which this occurs include Mexico, South Africa, Caribbean, Canada, and Russia.  However, other countries where outsourcing is used include Having increased technological abilities over the past decade with many programmers in these countries are highly skilled and affordable.  Obviously, using services of this nature gives a company a comparative advantage.

As mentioned, there has been significant controversy associated with software development in abroad countries.  Take India as a prime example.  People there speak English, although often difficult to understand for people in North America.  While the programmers are skilled, hard working, and dedicated, the language barrier can be a serious problem, especially when it comes to the actual software program delivered compared to what was requested.

Many people within North America feel that software development in abroad countries is good but they also find that the level of customer service provided to the customer is not up to par.  This coupled with issues relating to a lack of technical support, especially in actually reaching someone to talk to is a serious problem.  Even so, many companies overseas that outsource provide dynamic solutions, helping US companies grow.

Then, there is the consideration for supply chain when talking about software development in abroad countries.  For instance, many people feel that giving over such an important project as software development to people in another country causes them to lose too much control.  In fact, in studies, as much as 62% of people interviewed feel they are taking a significant risk with outsourcing.

Software development in abroad countries also brings up the issue of competition.  This means that as programmers in foreign countries gain more and more knowledge and technological ability, there is concern that they will take this newfound expertise and use it for themselves or begin to charge high rates.  We have seen this happen in the automotive industry with China, learning from the American people and then creating their own automobiles, which are then sold back to the United States.

The other side to that is that often, when a worker becomes qualified in something such as software development in abroad countries, he or she will soon leave or be forced out of a position.  This means a company in North America hiring a foreign designer or software developer, could find themselves left holding the bag.  The result is a half finished project and no idea where the programmer has gone.

The good news associated with software development in abroad countries is that it has created a lot of attention and stir.  As a result, programmers are working with companies to meet budgets while still providing top solutions.  In fact, in the last couple of years, there has been an increase in the number of programming jobs staying within the country.  In fact, it is estimated that only 4% of all jobs in the United States have gone to foreign workers in recent years.

Whether using someone in North America or someone to handle software development in abroad countries, the key is to find someone who has the right experience, education, and reputation to do the job.  Obviously, trying to manage things over thousands of miles can be tough.  Even so, there are many top notch companies and individual programmers around the world who have the talent and know-how to help a business get off the ground or surpass their competition.

The truth is that software development in abroad countries has been done for years.  As a result, NAFTA was established in 1994 as a way of controlling unbalanced bargaining power, making negotiations better, and reducing risks and benefits of outsourcing.  There are risks involved with any type of outsourcing, especially when it comes to software development in abroad countries.  Often, companies are in need of a completed product quickly but one that is highly professional.
